Continuous combustion processes are prominently encountered in many applications related to power generation, heating and propulsion. Examples include domestic and industrial burners, steam and gas turbines, waste generators, and jet and ramjet engines. Continuous combustion processes exhibit a wide range of dynamics. Of these, conditions which promote coupling with the acoustic field and result in sustained, large amplitude oscillations remain as most challenging in the effort to develop ultra-low emission, lean premixed combustion to its full potential. Paradoxically, near stoichiometric burning in high-speed propulsion systems exhibits similar dynamics.
